Library material can be checked out by members of the PNCA community (students, faculty, staff, alumni, CE Students, CE Faculty, etc.).
Alumni are defined as people who have graduated from a BFA, MFA, or MA program at PNCA. Community Education (CE) Students that are enrolled in a class 4 weeks or longer have checkout privileges while their class is in session.
Anyone is welcome to visit our library and use the collection for their research. In order to borrow material, those outside of PNCA may purchase a Community Patron library card for $75 per year.
People with an unpaid high balance will sometimes be placed on Reserves Only by the business office. Regular circulation privileges will be restored upon notice from the business office.
Reserves must be returned for at least 6 hours before they can be checked out again.
Most items do not accrue late fees, with a couple of exceptions:
Reserves - $2 per day
Interlibrary Loans - $2 per day
Library balances over $10 are sent monthly to student accounts and billed by the business office. Balances that remain under $10 for the semester are cleared.
Items more than 30 days overdue are considered lost and patrons will be billed replacement charges of $100 for each book and $75 for each DVD, CD, zine, or VHS. Patrons may return lost items within 30 days of replacement charges being sent to the business office to have fines to reduced to a $20 flat fee per item. Items returned after 30 days of the lost charges being sent will be reduced to a $50 flat fee per item.
If you lose an item and would like to replace it, you may be able to supply a new and exact replacement for the lost item. Please discuss this option with library staff. Arrangements must be made with library staff prior to replacement charges being sent to the business office.
Patrons with recurring lost charges will be subject to diminished library privileges as outlined below.
- 1st instance of lost item charges sent to Student Accounts: patron policy changed to Limited Patron for 30 days.
- 2nd instance of lost item charges sent to Student Accounts: patron policy changed to Reserves Only for 30 days.
- 3rd instance of lost item charges sent to Student Accounts: patron policy changed to Reserves Only for 60 days.
- 4th instance of lost item charges sent to Student Accounts will be taken on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of library staff.
Damaged items will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. In the event that we must replace an item because of damage, charges will be assessed according to the fees outlined above in the Lost Items policy.
