Sneak Preview
We just got a shipment of books from the bookstore at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York City.
These books are so new we haven’t even cataloged them yet.
Some of the gems include:
Hans Ulrich Obrist ; dontstopdontstopdontstop“A compendium of texts written between 1990 and 2006… A must-have for anyone for anyone interested in the unusual strategies of a curator-at-large.” – publisher
this is one of those books i hate to look at – the kind that clever designers lay out to be different, or, in other words, really hard to read. each page is divided into three, horizontal, sections. each section is a chapter of the book. so, on the first page we have the beginning of the preface, the beginning of the first chapter, and the beginning of the second chapter. oln the second page is the second page of the preface, the seond page of the first chapter and the second page of the second chapter. but, still, it is a cool book. And, Louise Bourgoeois says, “Obrist is an art world nomad. His mind is like an immense computer cross referencing art, film, architecture and social matters…”
I heart darkness interviews by Natascha Sofia Snellman
“A collection of 14 casual interviews with fellow artists about their practices, habits, interests, and influences along with reproductions of recent work. Interviewees include Nina Bovasso, Brendan Clenaghen, Ami Tallman, Jamie Isenstein, Sue de Beer, Sterling Ruby, Kevin Christy, Gus Van Sant, Jess, Brian Kennon, Jeanine Jablonski, Ashley Macomber, Alex Hubbard and Storm Tharp.”
this book is fun and easy to read. it’s like listening in to some phone conversations between people who are artists and friends with each other. it makes you wish you had friends. and if you have developed a short attention span because of too much time on the internet, this is a book you can put down and pick up and just read little snippets of.
