It's all GOOD!
At the behest of communication design student and library employee, Liz, we subscribed to GOOD Magazine. This morning I received the first issue and I’m in loooooooove. GOOD is about everything. Kinda. Art, design, culture, the environment, culture and the environment, politics, education, money, media, health, science…. Whew. Here’s what the cover says: GOOD is for people who give a damn. It’s an entertaining magazine about things that matter.
GOOD magazine donates 100 percent of subscription costs to a charity selected by the subscriber from a list of 12. It was a difficult choice for us, but Sara and I finally chose for our money to go to Youth Aids. Their mission is to use media, pop culture, music, theater, and sports to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and reach 600 million young people in more than 60 countries with life-saving messages, products, services, and care. (From the GOOD Magazine website.) Maybe next year we’ll subscribe to the one for teaching reading in developing countries. P.S. it’s only $20 to subscribe!
AND! I’m going to plagiarize page 15 of the May/June issue (if you say where it came from it’s not plagiarizing… hmm):
GOOD is printed on… paper containing 30% post industrial and 100% post consumer waste, EcoLogo certified and manufactured using Biogas Energy. This issue of GOOD Magazine saved the equivalent of 225 trees and lowered air emissions by 40, 704 lbs.
sigh. i just love it. look for GOOD magazine on the Spring Focus library cart in the commons at lunch!
