Another excellent publication from MIT Press, Grey Room, brings together scholarly and theoretical articles from the fields of architecture, art, media, and politics to forge a cross-disciplinary discourse uniquely relevant to contemporary concerns. Publishing some of the most interesting and original work within these disciplines, Grey Room has positioned itself at the forefront of the most current aesthetic and critical debates.
I found an interesting article in the Fall 2011 special issue On Brainwashing: Mind Control, Media, and Warfare entitled, “Biomusic” (Branden W. Joseph, Fall 2011, No. 45, Pages 128-150). This article discusses the history of use of music in torture and biomusic’s more optimistic beginnings.
