Journal Profile: Animation: an interdisciplinary journal
Welcome to a new weekly feature, the Journal Profile. Here, we will profile our scholarly journals and how to access them. We subscribe to a number of interesting titles having to do with the arts; you can find the full list of journals on our Scholarly Journals page.

Animation, published by Sage journals, is an “international, peer-reviewed journal [that] brings together research in film and media studies, architecture, art and design, visual culture and creative practice. The journal seeks to create an academic dialogue mapping the interdisciplinary nature of animation studies. Articles address all known techniques, revealing animation’s implications for other forms of time-based media.”
Animation sometimes has special issues in which authors address specific concepts or themes. One article that I found particularly interesting was “Magic Lantern, Dark Precursor of Animation” (July 2011 vol. 6 no. 2 127-148) and the PDF is available to download!
Note: online access is limited to the volumes we have in the library. Please see the Library Homeroom for off-campus access.
