Word and Quote of the week

Courting the Amalgamated Sugar Co., works by Cameron Hawkey.

Please join us in the PNCA library during the month of April. On display in the front case is a selection from Cameron Hawkey’s sketchbooks.

Says Cameron:

I believe, oh so sincerely, in the sketchbook. It’s a just stack of paper, but that’s the meat and cheese of my bread and butter. Before I kept a sketchbook, I was a total drip. My nose curled into my mouth and my fingers felt like putty. My mind was a cold bowl of thin stew. I strained to think and write and draw, but I kept losing it all in the winds of change. I had no way of referencing my own thoughts. The only way to bring myself to reason, I reasoned, was to create my own dictionaries, my own encyclopedias, my own anatomy books. I didn’t know it at the time, but the day I realized that was the day I started courting the Amalgamated Sugar Co..

Works by Robin LaGrone in the library, April 2011.

Come check ‘em out in the Bachelor Pad and the Living Room!

Says Robin:
My work is editorial in nature, using humor and a cartoon-like aesthetic to express ideas. It is important to me to incorporate traditional media, so the majority of all of my work is created with a heavy emphasis on drawing and painting. I hope to have my work illustrate the purpose and statement made about the particular concept and subject by means of humor and/or amusement.
