The Sandman graphic novels, Review by Sarah Hollander

The Sandman graphic novels by Neil Gaiman
Review by Sarah Hollander

The graphic novel collection at this school is incredible. Seriously. People who don’t attend school at PNCA are jealous… mostly because I brag about it. If you haven’t checked it out, you should. I discovered Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series years ago, and I highly recommend it. The stories are just complicated enough to keep you interested, and they frequently loop back to earlier parts throughout the series to come full circle at the end. The Sandman series follows the story of a deity and those around him, in classic anti-hero fashion. Although Gaiman wrote the series, he is not an artist, and hired multiple people to create the art, from collage to full paintings to simple line drawings. Most of the art is not so outlandish as to detract from the story, and a lot of it is breathtaking. There was one artist whose work I didn’t care for, and I struggled to follow the story in that section because of that, so it might be something to watch out for while reading. PNCA Library owns all of The Sandman series, plus a few “bonus” books of artwork and criticism. In addition, we also have quite a few of Neil Gaiman’s novels, as well as graphic novels, and the DVD set of the BBC miniseries “Neverwhere”.

Eulerian Circles!

Check out the original publication of John Venn’s 1880 paper, “On the Diagrammatic and Mechanical Representation of Propositions and Reasonings.

It’s soooooo cool! What we now know as Venn Diagrams were termed “Eulerian circles” by Mr. Venn himself. I’m particularly fond of the diagram for four terms; it’s so crazy!
