Borrowing and Circulation

Library materials circulate to full-time BFA and MFA Students, CE Students, CE Faculty, Staff, Alumni, and Faculty of the PNCA community upon presentation of proper identification.

Artists, scholars, and the Portland community are welcome to visit our library and use the collection for their research. In order to borrow material, those outside of the PNCA community may join the library for a fee of $75 per year.

Alumni have borrowing privileges. This privilege is available to those
who have graduated from PNCA or the Museum School and earned a BFA or MFA degree.

All borrowers are encouraged to return or renew materials promptly in order to avoid fines and billing charges. Patrons may renew items online. See library staff for login and password information.

24 hour reserves must be returned for at least 6 hours before they can be checked out again.

Library fines accrue at the following rates:

Standard items, DVDs, videos, and new items – 25-cents/item per day
24-Hour reserves – $5 per day
Interlibrary Loans – $1 per day

Items more than 30 days overdue are considered lost and patrons will be billed replacement charges of $50 for each zine, CD, DVD or VHS and $100 for each book. Patrons may return lost items within 30 days and will only be responsible for a $20 overdue charge per item.

If you lose an item and would like to replace it, you may supply a new and exact replacement for the lost item. Please discuss this option with library staff.

Library balances over $5 will be assigned monthly to student accounts and billed by the business office. Failure to pay the balance can result in non-release of grades, transcripts, and/or diplomas.

Patrons with PNCA account balances exceeding $1000.00 will have circulation privileges limited to Course Reserves. These patrons are welcome to use other library facilities including electronic databases and computers, and may browse and use our collection in the library. Regular circulation privileges may be restored upon notice from the business office.
